Imagine a nation where every child has the opportunity to embark on countless adventures, explore new worlds, and expand their horizons - all through the simple joy of reading a book. Unfortunately, for many children in poor families, this is not a reality. In fact, only one in 300 children in these families has access to books. In stark contrast, a middle-class family typically has an average of 13 books.

 

We face a growing disparity: children starting school who have never seen a book are learning alongside peers who already know how to read. This gap is not just about reading skills—it’s about cognitive development, opportunities, and future success. Did you know that 90% of brain development happens in the first five years of life? These early years are crucial, and books play a vital role in shaping young minds.

 

At our organization, we are committed to bridging this gap through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Children enrolled in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library have the chance to receive up to 60 books if they sign up at birth. Each month, we send out over 1,000 books to children in need at a cost of just $30.00 per child per year. These books do more than teach reading; they transform lives. Every book we send out carries a message of love and hope.

 

We are proud to partner with Huntsville Memorial Hospital to support this mission. Together, we provide new parents with a goodie bag that includes an enrollment form for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, ensuring that every newborn has the opportunity to start life with access to books.
